St. Joseph Hospital, located at 4295 Hempstead Turnpike, Bethpage, New York 11714, is a community hospital that provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical, critical care and surgical services. Its Emergency Department cares for approximately 33,000 patients a year. Other vital services include an Ambulatory Surgery Unit, The Center for Sleep Medicine, Hyperbaric and Wound Healing Center, CHS Cancer Center that treats a full array of infusion therapies in a private six chair unit, The Center for Speech and Swallowing Disorders, a Diabetes Education Center and a full scope of outpatient radiology services, including Cardiac CT.
St. Joseph Hospital became a member of Catholic Health Services (CHS) of Long Island in early 2010. CHS is an integrated health care delivery system which includes six hospitals, three skilled nursing facilities, a regional home health agency, hospice and a multiservice, community-based agency for persons with special needs. Under the sponsorship of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, CHS serves hundreds of thousands of Long Islanders each year, providing care that extends from the beginning of life to helping people live their final years in comfort, grace and dignity.
The Emergency Department at St. Joseph consists of Main Treatment room with 34 beds, Express Care with 12 beds and Clinical Decision Unit with 6 beds. In 2016 we opened St. Francis Imaging Services at St. Joseph Hospital with our new Cardiac CT Scanner.
The Emergency Room RN applies evidence based practice while providing patient centered care based upon the nursing process. The RN provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care and responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Delivery of care is guided by the 5 step Emergency Severity Index (ESI) algorithm. The applicant must be self-motivated, possessing critical thinking and interpersonal relationship skills, and the ability to prioritize and multi task in a faced paced environment.
Current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse required. Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred. Minimum of 1 year clinical experience as an RN required, Med/Surg, Telemetry, or Critical Care experience required. TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Curriculum) preferred or required within one year.
BLS/ACLS/PALS/AED training required and accepted from only 2 organizations:
1. American Heart Association -BLS/ACLS/PALS for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program
2. American Red Cross - CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
