The Step-DownUnit (SDU) is a 8-bed in-patient unit that provides hemodynamic monitoring and treatment of adult patients that includes heart failure, chest pain, arrhythmia, chronic ventilation, or other cardiovascular dysfunction.To work in the Cardiac Stepdown unit, our nurses need to have strong assessment and critical thinking skills, be proficient at cardiac rhythm interpretation, understand the relationship of multiple co-morbidities, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. The unit is comprised of 8 individual bed pods. Monitoring capability is available at each bedside.

Patients with special requirements are placed strategically to provide optimal nursing care to meet individual needs.

The unit remains operational 24 hours per 7 days per week.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.Bachelors Degree preferred. Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in New York State. BLS required.ACLS required for PACU, ED all critical care areas.PALS required for ED and PACU. Physical requirements: ability to stand for extended periods of time, ability to lift or move patients in the course of administering nursing care.Demonstrate good body mechanics. Excellent verbal and auditory skills required for communicating clearly and effectively with patients, physicians, families, care team members, other hospital departments.Manual dexterity required to operate medical/computer equipment.Ability to cope with physical and emotional stress.
