The Emergency Department at St. Joseph consists of Main Treatment room with 34 beds, Express Care with 12 beds and Clinical Decision Unit with 6 beds. In 2016 we opened St. Francis Imaging Services at St. Joseph Hospital with our new Cardiac CT Scanner.
The Emergency Room RN applies evidence based practice while providing patient centered care based upon the nursing process. The RN provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care and responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Delivery of care is guided by the 5 step Emergency Severity Index (ESI) algorithm. The applicant must be self-motivated, possessing critical thinking and interpersonal relationship skills, and the ability to prioritize and multi task in a faced paced environment
Current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse required. Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred. Minimum of1 year clinical experience as an RN required, Med/Surg, Telemetry, or Critical Care experience preferred. TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Curriculum) preferred or required within one year.
BLS/ACLS/PALS/AED training required and accepted from only 2 organizations:
1. American Heart Association -BLS/ACLS/PALS for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program
2. American Red Cross - CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
Responsible for providing individualized and goal-directed nursing care to patients through the use of the nursing process. The nursing process includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care. In the absences of the Assistant Head Nurse, the RN will assume the authority and responsibility for the operation of the nursing unit for a specific shift.
REQUIREMENTS: NYS RN License and Registration required. BSN required or proof of current enrollment in BSN program. BLS/ACLS/PALS Certifications required. Three years experience preferred in Emergency Department of an acute care facility required. Excellent communication skills, organizational skills required.
