System Analyst - HIM/EPIC

Responsible for the validation, design, build, testing and implementation of the Epic HIM Systems including Epic, 3M Coding and Reimbursement, 3M CDI, Stentel and HANYS UDS systems. Understands the scope, schedule, and quality of the project within the Epic Medical Record applications. Understands and follows the detailed work plans. Demonstrates competency of an application systems analyst and implementation activities, including: in-depth analyses of workflows, data collection, report details, and other technical issues associated with the use of vendor software. Identifies issues that impact deadlines and quality of project and escalates to the Team Lead. Works with the Team Lead to actively resolve issues and apply risk mitigation strategies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (Not all inclusive and may vary with assignments):

Essential Functions:
The Health Information Management Analyst primary function is to build, support, test and validate HIM application suite and utilize this skill set to present to Operational Leadership.
  • Analyzes key HIM workflows and determines appropriate EMR workflow.
  • Serving as a bridge between end users and vendor support.
  • Assist vendors to better understand CHS's operational needs and to support validation of workflows and Model System configurations.
  • Coordinating all issues that arise for their application area
  • Participates in all aspects of information systems implementation (planning, build, test, train, implement, production support).
  • Adhering to standards for naming and numbering conventions and security classifications.
  • Understanding choices in application specifications and prepares details of specifications as needed.
  • Investigating the preferred choices of the users.
  • Developing and documenting internal procedures.
  • Collaborate with team and vendor to create and execute implementation plans.
  • Ability to assist the Medical Records staff in articulating and documenting processes and issues.
  • Facilitate team in identifying and resolving system issues which have an enterprise-wide impact on the system
  • Become knowledgeable in the organizational processes, policies, procedures and business operations as they relate to the project.
  • Actively participate in live and post-live support. This will include training, issues management; follow up communication, application changes, etc. This requires availability to work all shifts during Go Live and upgrades.
  • Ability to leads application team meetings as needed
  • Willing to participate in leadership project meetings.
  • Ability to facilitate accurate communication between all involved parties.
  • Guarantees efficient and effective completion of project assignments in accordance with standard procedures
  • Assists facilities in meeting dynamic regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to break down complex problems into manageable tasks
  • Works independently, across functional areas and hierarchical levels
  • Accurate and timely recording of time against tasks assigned.
  • Contributes to and consistently applies CHS Services' policies, procedures and benefits to all customers and/or employees by effectively working with all customers and CHS personnel without discrimination.
  • Conducts himself/herself in conformity with the Corporate Compliance Assurance Program and is committed to the mission and goals of Catholic Health Services of Long Island.
  • Plays an active role in the CHS information security awareness program by following and supporting all CHS information security policies and procedures to the best of their ability. This will include reporting any suspected fraud, abuse, or violation of policy to the appropriate management or reporting mechanism.

Functional Abilities (including but not limited to):
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required for day-to-day interaction with entity clinical department management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Specific clinical knowledge and experience that will enable the self-confidence to carry out responsibilities and interaction with co workers in a professional manner.
  • Willingness to travel from entity to entity.
  • Willingness to attend training classes- out of state requiring overnight travel over multiple days
  • Environment is subject to high-level visibility through verbal and written communications with senior management, associated project deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and maintain confidentiality of material and information
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast paced environment and meet goals of timeliness and quality
  • Must be available for on-call support on a regular basis. Due to project requirements, overtime will be required as needed.

  • Must have a Bachelors and at least 3 years experience in a progressive IT role.
  • Working knowledge of policies, procedures, and business operations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office, Microsoft Project, Visio
  • Demonstrated ability to manage to deadlines, changing priorities
  • Strong project management skills (ability to lead meetings, prioritize, resolve conflicts, maintain issues list, manage project plan).
  • Strong communication and follow-up skills.
  • Detail oriented and knack for probing for information in order to fully understand the underlying needs that drive how the system should be built.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities; excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Independent and self-motivated, energetic with strong desire to learn.
  • Epic certified or must attend and complete Epic certification requires week long out of state travel for each course required for certification (minimum two courses)
