Sleep Technologist

Facility: St Charles Hospital Location: Port Jefferson, NY Department: Sleep Apnea Center Category: Allied Health / Clinical Professional Schedule: Per Diem Shift: Evening and Night shifts Hours: 6P-630A ReqNum: 6012018 Qualified candidates must be NYS and RPSGT Polysomnography Certified and must have an Associate's degree or higher. A Bachelor's degree is preferred. This compassionate medical professional performs polysomnographic testing and analysis under general oversight of Lead Polysomnographic Technologist and/or Clinical Director. The sleep technologist is responsible for carefully preparing for the sleep study prior to the patient's arrival. This includes reviewing patient information in order to meet the patient-specific needs; review the patient's history and verify the medical order; verify patient identification upon arrival; explain the procedure to the patient; select appropriate equipment and calibrate for testing; and perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface and desensitization. The sleep tech follows procedural protocols, performs data acquisition while monitoring the study, documents routine observations, intervenes as needed to ensure patient safety, scores the study and clinical events, prepares a report and provides patient education. This position has a rotating overnight schedule including weekends and some possible daytime hours on occasion for scoring.
