Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

Position Summary:

Located in Rockville Centre, NY, Catholic Health is a $3B multi facility health system providing the full continuum of care to the Long Island community. Comprised of six hospitals, three long term care facilities, Home Care and Hospice agencies Catholic Health offers a full spectrum of health care services.

Reporting directly to the system President and CEO, the Chief Financial Officer is a key member of the leadership team providing leadership in financial stewardship, growth and development of strategic objectives and the improvement of financial performance. This position will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations including budgeting, fiscal controls, revenue cycle, and financial analysis/reporting, assuring that all financial operations are managed effectively. The departments falling under the authority of the CFO include Corporate Finance, Revenue Cycle, Managed Care, Health Information Management (HIM), Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI), Financial Reporting and the facility finance teams, consisting of a total span of control of over 570 employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the finance operation for the health system including financial analysis and reports, preparation of budgets, revenue cycle, financial planning.
  • Manage the treasury function ensuring current and projected cash inflows and outflows are monitored to ensure that there is sufficient cash to fund health system operations, as well as to ensure that excess cash is properly invested.
  • Work with the senior leadership team to identify areas of strategic opportunities and risks, alternatives, and contingencies. Assist in developing a strategic direction and positioning of the health system to ensure continued growth and success.
  • Work with the CEO, Chief Operating Officer and other members of the executive management team to develop and recommend for Board approval, an annual budget that support the long term strategy of the health system.
  • Create, coordinate, and evaluate the financial controls and oversee the preparation of financial statements and the reporting on the financial position of the health system;
  • Develop appropriate key performance indicators to monitor and drive the financial performance of the health system.
  • Oversee and monitor the organization’s financial position, banking and financing activities and capital structure. Monitor the respect of banking and financial covenants.
  • Keep credit rating agencies informed of the organization’s financial results and condition, ensuring positive ratings and opportunities for marketable debt issuances.
  • Ensure that there is an effective succession plan in place for the CFO position and other senior executives of the organization reporting to the CFO.
  • Oversight of the health system financial operations;
  • Serve as member of the Finance Committee;
  • Act as the advisor to the President and CEO on all financial matters;
  • Forecast trends in finance and operations for the health system and respective facilities/functions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Position requires a Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration plus ten years of related finance experience with demonstrated leadership and management skills in a complex healthcare related organization.
  • Excellent knowledge of financial concepts, budgeting, accounting and information systems as well as experience with clinical operations is also required. Proven accomplishments as a business partner to a leadership team and experience in a complex health system operations role are preferred.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate complex financial material to board members, senior leadership and  related personnel;
  • Design, implement and modify standards and procedures to improve workflow;
  • Work closely and effectively with a diverse group of senior leaders as well as peers and subordinates;
  • Excellent interpersonal, management and organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to build and motivate a high performing team;
