JOB TITLE:Nursing Director of Perioperative Services

DEPARTMENT:Perioperative Services

REPORTS TO:Sr. Vice President Patient Care Services/CNO

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

1.Licensed in the State of New York.

2.Master's Degree in Nursing required.

3.Five years recent experience in an administrative role.

4.Five years Operating Room experience.

5.Physically able to perform CPR, navigate throughout the institution, and record and report information.

SUMMARY OF MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Nursing Director of Surgical Services is responsible for the coordination and direction of the Operating Room, Cardiothoracic Operating Room, PACU, Endoscopy, Pre-Admission Testing, Central Sterile Department and Perfusion in the delivery of nursing care services related to the perioperative adult, older adult, adolescent and pediatric patients.

Provides direction in matters related to patient care and personnel management.

Monitors compliance with established standards from regulatory agencies and maintains ongoing activities to correct deficiencies.

Participates in defining, maintaining, interpreting and monitoring standards of nursing practice through Performance Improvement activities.

Participates in the assessment, planning and monitoring of budget activities for the Operating Room, Cardiothoracic Operating Room, PACU, Endoscopy, Pre-Admission Testing, Central Sterile Department and Perfusion.

Prepares and administers performance appraisals of personnel reporting directly to the Nursing Director of Surgical Services.

Ensures accurate statistical collection and reporting.

Participates in Infection Control & Radiation Safety Committees to determine policies and procedures that effect patient care and patient/staff safety.

Ensures that policy and practice encompass current National Patient Safety Standards as well as Sentinel Event Alert information.
