Oncology Dietitian

Summary:

The outpatient Oncology Dietitian is available to all patients throughout the continuum of cancer care (for prevention, treatment and survivorship). Oncology Dietitians meet with patients and their families to complete the nutrition care process, develop a personalized nutrition care plan, recommend diet strategies to improve nutrition status, manage treatment related side effects, and to provide diet education and nutrition counseling.

The Oncology Dietitian is responsible for assessing patients' nutritional status and intervening with appropriate medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and/or education to improve, maintain, or optimize nutrition status and document in the electronic medical record.

The Dietitian participates in many things that relate to cancer care including tumor board meetings, interdisciplinary rounds, Cancer Committee meetings, health fairs, survivorship days, community outreach programs, assisting with grant writing and creating educational material.The RD also aids in the orientation and training of new employees and participates in clinical education of dietetic interns from clinical affiliates.

Qualifications/Experience:

A motivated individual who is pro-active and willing to develop new programs

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable with public speaking, professionalism, customer-service focused.

Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics required

Must have completed a post graduate supervised, Commission on Dietetics Registration approved dietetic internship program and successfully passed the National Registration Examination for Dietitians to become a Registered Dietitian (RD).

Certification with New York State (CDN) is required within 1 year of start date.

Master's Degree and Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO) preferred

2-3 years clinical experience preferred

Experience with EPIC preferred
