DUTIES: Current valid licensure to practice as Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in NYS.Able to make sound decisions based on critical analysis of the situation. Ability to prioritize complex situations in a timely manner and educate patients/staff regarding the health care system. Must be BLS and ACLS certified. Must be certified by the national certifying body as recognized by the NYS Department of Education. Must be registered in NYS.QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an accredited & recognized N.Y.S. Physician Assistant or Nurse PRactitioner Training Program, Licensed, and Registered as a PA/NP in NYS. Must also hold Certification in BLS, ACLS. Minimum of one year critical care (ICU/SICU/CCU) experience working under the supervision of Critical care medicine specialist. Must be proficient at managing all aspects of critical care to include ordering/interpretation of laboratory, radiological and imaging data, managing ventilator settings, writing routine notes and orders, entering all data into the electronic medical record, running RRT/CE resuscitations, assisting the Critical Care Physician with all aspects of patient care in the units. Candidates must be proficient and be certified and have documentable experience performing invasive procedures such as but not limited to Thoracentesis, Chest Tube Thoracotomy, Ultrasound guided placement of vascular access devices such as Arterial lines, Internal jugular, subclavian, femoral lines as well as endotracheal intubation with and without glidesdcope guidance, Arterial blood gases, nasogastric tube placement, and insertion of foley catheters, suturing of minor wounds.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of all medical equipment available in an Surgical Department. Position is moderate requiring periods of standing/walking, and sitting while examining patients.Ability to bend, stretch, and reach required. Manual dexterity required to examine patients. Must be able to position patients during assessment if necessary. Excellent verbal and auditory skills required for communicating clearly and effectively with patients, families, staff members and other hospital departments. Ability to cope with physical and emotional stress.
