Secretary - Nursing Payroll

St. Catherine’s is located on the north short of Long Island in Smithtown. The campus is comprised of 296-bed not-for-profit community hospital; a 240-bed nursing and rehabilitation care center; and a 60,000 square foot medical office building.   • Reconciles prior days staffing for all nursing unites and cross-checks against actual scheduling.
  • Verifies hours worked, compiles overtime hours.
  • Monitors accurate payment of benefit time and ensures proper payment for leave of absence.
  • Validates accuracy of call schedules.
  • Runs benefit report and validates staffing availability of time.
  • Tracks Agency floating and approval of time.
  • Reviews timecards for accuracy.
  • Approves timecards for payroll on payroll weekend/payroll Monday by deadline.
  • Communicates with ANM/NM/Directors regarding pay policies.
  • Ensures accurate floating of staff.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of sick calls or emergency requests.
  • Researches employee questions regarding incorrect check or benefit usage.

*Adheres to all organizational policies and procedures.


  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 1-2 years of college preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience as a payroll secretary in a hospital or health care setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Ultimate Kronos Group (Kronos) / Payroll experience a plus.
