Billing Clerk

Facility: Physician Practice Account: Good Samaritan Physician Practice Location: West Islip, NY Department: Gyn Surg Onc-Singhal-P Category: Administrative / Business Support Schedule: Full Time, Variable Shifts, Variable Days Shift: Varied hours Hours: 9:00am-5:00pm ReqNum: 6006528

The individual in this role is responsible for coordinating billing activities at the practice; including but not limited to charge capture, reconciliation, and charge entry.Assists front desk staff with verification of insurance coverage, and retrieval of referrals and authorizations.This representative ensures that waivers are signed if there is no referral, or if provider is non-par; handles incoming insurance correspondence and acts as practice liaison to central business office and / or third party vendor.In addition, this individual will provide front desk support as needed which includes answering phones, scheduling appointments, check-in and check-out. This position requires the ability to function in a multi-tasking environment.


High School diploma or GED required; Certified Professional Coding Designation (CPC) issued by the American Academy of Professional Coder is required.

Medical Records Billing and / or Coding certification from an accredited program is preferred. Associates degree in Healthcare, Business Administration or completion of a related specialty program in an accredited school is preferred.


Knowledge of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines; medical terminology; anatomy and physiology; Medicare reimbursement guidelines

Microsoft Office Suite proficiency, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

Knowledge of medical terminology

Excellent interpersonal skills and effective written and oral communication skills to enhance population specific service, team collaboration and analytical problem solving

Must be flexible, able to multitask and work in a stressful environment


1 + years administrative / billing experience required that includes the application of general operational medical office practices, accounting / budgeting principles and coordination of billing / administrative functions.
