Lead Medical Technologist

Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Lead Medical Technologist is responsible for performing a variety of clinical tests exercising independent judgement in the specialties or subspecialties as qualified. The Lead Medical Technologist performs various biochemical, microscopic and/or Blood Bank tests to obtain data for use in the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of disease and acts as supervisor in the absence of the department supervisor.
Prepares specimens for examination, performs a variety of routine and/or complex laboratory tests and procedures and reports results.
Troubleshoots basic instrumentation, technical problems and methodologies.
Performs routine and/or preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment.
Monitors the department's quality control policies and ensures documentation of all quality control activities, instrument, and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
Ensures that departmental supplies are stocked and well maintained.
Monitors service priorities and workflow patterns to assure prompt and efficient delivery of services
Evaluates departmental performance and recommends measures to improve services.
Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or related science from an accredited school.
Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist under the NYS Department of Education required.
Certification by internship and examination from the ASCP as a registered Medical Technologist desired.
Six years successful experience as a Medical Technologist preferred.
Good oral and written communication skills required.
