Polysomnographic Technologist

Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center is a 537- bed (including 100 nursing home beds) teaching hospital and a member of Catholic Health Services of Long Island. A Polysomnographic Technologist works under the general supervision of the clinical director to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. A Polysomnographic Technologist can perform the duties defined for a Polysomnographic Technician and may provide supervision of other staff.

Responsibilities:

Gathers and analyzes patient information

Utilize testing preparation procedures including calibration, electrode and censor application, and routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting

Follows polysomnographic procedures including data collection, "lights out" procedures, routine observations, appropriate interventions, and "lights on" procedures

Scores polysomnographic records (sleep/wake stages and clinical events) by applying professionally accepted guidelines and center-specific protocols

Performs routine equipment care and maintenance and inventory evaluation

Attends continuing education programs on-site and off-site

Requirements:

Completion of a Certificate program in Polysomnography Technology or American Academy of Sleep Medicine A-Step training program is required.

BLS or CPR/AED training required and accepted from only 2 organizations: American Heart. Association - BLS/ACLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program

American Red Cross - CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. No online programs from any organization will be accepted.
