Nurse Consultant Palliative Care Service

The Palliative Care Nurse Consultant is a Registered Nurse with advanced clinical experience, a commitment to continuous professional development and certification in Palliative Care Nursing.The nurse consultant works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary/ healthcare team and is responsible for the delivery of evidence-based physical, emotional, psychosocial and spiritual patient/family care. The Palliative Care Nurse Consultant is responsible for the assessment, interdisciplinary planning, patient/family education and support.


Coordinates and completes palliative care consults.

Available as a consultant to patients, families and staff (hospital and hospice)

regarding end of life issues and palliative care

Assisting with education and training of hospital employees; MDs, nurses, medical students, residents, social work and other members of the healthcare team as appropriate

Assists with education of the community regarding palliative care and associated


Adheres to the practice of confidentiality regarding patients, families, staff, and

the organization

Perform other duties as requested


Registered nurse currently licensed in the state

Two (2+) or more years hospice or palliative care experience preferred and

certificationin Hospice and Palliative Care preferred

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated knowledge about home care, hospice, palliative care, advance

directives, pain management, symptoms control, and discharge planning

Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred

CPR certified
